Mixed Media

About the process

Wikipedia defines mixed media as artwork, such as  collages and sculpture, which include more than one medium or  material. Materials used may include paint, cloth, paper, wood or found objects.

In 2021, I started exploring mixed media, adding watercolour or acrylic paint and paper cutouts (linocuts) to linocuts.  Endless scope for play!  Initially, I focused on adding acrylic or watercolour paint to linocuts or drypoint prints. However, I found I really enjoyed creating a small series, ‘Over in the Meadow’, in which I cutout and glued small prints of some of my favourite mammals and birds to to a previous linocut reduction series of field grasses.  There are still 2 works in the series to be completed.  I loved the process, the fun of carving the smaller inhabitants for my field, and then arranging them o the printed surface, that I’m planning  to do it again, focus on habitats, and the ,  animals associated with them.
